Member Story - Doris Engamokwu

Doris Engamokwu first learned of North Side Community Federal Credit Union in 2003. It was around the same time she decided to pursue her vision of opening a daycare. She had been laid off from her job in 2002 and decided it was the best time to go for her dream. She reached out to the Women’s Business Development Center, a small business development center that had a partnership with North Side. She received her first loan for $35,000 to get her business off the ground.

She experienced many challenges along the way and made personal sacrifices to get the daycare running. Over time, she paid off her first loan and grew to twelve employees. In 2011 Doris decided it was time to own her own building. While she financed the property with another institution, when she realized the building needed much improvement she came back to North Side Community Federal Credit Union for her second loan.

She was pleased with her experience and states “the credit union did everything possible to help me get the loan. Tom was very patient, and worked with me through every step of the process.” Through her partnership with North Side, Doris was able to move from unemployment to small business owner.  To learn more about her business, Little Kiddies Daycare, visit www.littlekiddiesdaycare.com.
